A 7 inch octagon foam cake dummy, measured point to point, available in 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 inch heights. Cut from dense EPS foam in our own workshop in Florida.
Eight corners, eight chances to get it wrong
An octagon is the most demanding of the flat-sided shapes. Every one of the eight faces has to be the same width and every corner the same angle, or the shape reads as lopsided from across a room. It is also the shape where cheap foam fails most visibly: each corner is an exposed edge, and low-density foam chips at all eight.
Ours are cut with a closed, fine-cell surface, so fondant lies flat and the corners hold their line when you handle or dowel the piece.
How it is measured
Point to point, the same convention as our hexagon and triangle dummies — so a 7 inch octagon fits inside a 7 inch circle, not across a 7 inch flat.
