Octagon Foam Cake Dummy
Octagon foam cake dummies in 19 widths and 8 heights — 4 to 22 inches point to point, 2 to 9 inches tall. That is 152 combinations, and as far as we know it is the deepest octagon range available anywhere in the United States.
Eight corners, eight chances to get it wrong
An octagon is the most demanding of the flat-sided shapes. Every one of the eight faces has to be the same width and every corner the same angle, or the shape reads as lopsided from across a room. Six faces on a hexagon is forgiving by comparison; eight is not. It is also where cheap foam fails most visibly, because each corner is an exposed edge and low-density foam chips at all eight.
How it is measured
Point to point, the same convention as our hexagon and triangle dummies. A 10 inch octagon fits inside a 10 inch circle, not across a 10 inch flat.
Choosing tiers
| Tiers | Sizes |
|---|---|
| 2 | 10" and 6" |
| 3 | 12", 9" and 6" |
| 4 | 14", 11", 8" and 6" |
Octagon towers usually step 3 inches between tiers rather than the 2 inches used on round, because the flat faces need more shoulder to read clearly.
Why our foam costs more than the cheap stuff
Dense, fine-cell EPS with a closed surface — no visible beads, no pitting, no crumbling. Fondant lies flat and all eight corners hold their line when you handle or dowel the piece.
