Six-Sided Hexagon Foam Carousel Cake Kit

Six defined roof panels, visible ridges and a solid hexagonal skirt. This is the canopy that looks most like an actual carousel roof, because real merry-go-rounds are built on segmented panels rather than a smooth dome, and six panels give you that segmentation without the pieces becoming too thin to cut cleanly.

It is also the most forgiving of the sculpted canopies to decorate. Each panel is a flat-ish triangle, so stripes, pennants and alternating colours can be laid panel by panel instead of wrapped around a curve.

What is in the kit

• Hexagon canopy with skirt
• Centre column
• Round base

Three pieces, cut to match. Decorations, cake, horses, poles and adhesives are not included.

Choosing your size

The canopy is measured point to point, across the opposite corners. Choose a canopy one to two inches smaller than the tier it sits on so a ring of cake stays visible. The 6 inch kit looks best on a 7 or 8 inch tier, the 8 inch on a 9 or 10 inch tier, and the 10 inch on an 11 or 12 inch tier.

Why this foam is not the cheap stuff

A hexagon canopy has six ridges and six skirt corners, which is twelve places for cheap foam to crumble. Low-density polystyrene with visible beads loses those edges during cutting and again during handling. We cut dense, fine-cell EPS with a closed surface so every ridge stays defined.

Putting it together

Run a wooden dowel or long skewer down through the column into the base, and a second one up into the canopy. Decorate panel by panel before assembly if you are alternating colours, since the ridges are much easier to follow while the canopy is loose. Use a food-safe barrier where the base meets an edible cake.

Questions people ask

Does it come decorated? No. It arrives as undecorated white foam.

Why six panels and not eight or twelve? Beyond six, each panel gets narrow enough that the ridges soften during cutting and the effect is lost.

Will it hold carousel horses? Yes. The foam takes skewers and dowels, so light resin, plastic or gum paste horses hang or stand without trouble.

Can I get a size that is not listed? Yes. See custom shapes and sizes.
