The difference between this and a cardboard board

A cardboard cake board is disposable by design. Butter and oil soak through within an hour, the white face goes translucent and grey under the cake, and it shows in every photograph taken after that. Once it is used, it is rubbish.

Coroplast does not absorb anything. Wipe it down and it is ready for the next cake. The same board can carry a dozen cakes over a year instead of one.

Why it matters more on a sheet board

A sheet board is the longest unsupported span of any cake base, and it is where cardboard fails first — it sags in the middle the moment you lift it, and a warm kitchen makes it worse. At 4mm, coroplast stays rigid across the whole length.

• Waterproof. Ganache, buttercream, condensation from a fridge — none of it soaks in.
• Will not warp. Holds flat in humidity and after refrigeration.
• Wipe clean and reuse. Warm soapy water. No solvents.
• Food-safe polypropylene. The same material used in food packaging.
