Royal Spire Stepped Foam Carousel Cake Kit

The tallest and most formal of the five. A pointed faceted canopy rises to a sharp spire, sits on its own round roof platform, and drops onto a centre column and a decorative two-level stepped base. Four pieces instead of three, and the extra height changes the whole silhouette: this reads as a bandstand or a fairytale pavilion rather than a fairground ride.

Choose it for wedding displays, quinceanera cakes and anything where the carousel needs presence at eye level rather than sitting low on the tier.

Choosing your size

Check your height as well as your diameter. This kit is roughly two inches taller than the other four at every size, and the 10 inch version stands close to 18 inches once assembled. Measure your cake box and your display shelf before choosing. As with the other kits, the canopy should be one to two inches smaller than the tier it sits on, so the 6 inch suits a 7 or 8 inch tier, the 8 inch a 9 or 10 inch tier, and the 10 inch an 11 or 12 inch tier.

Why this foam is not the cheap stuff

A spire is the hardest thing on this page to cut and the easiest to ruin. The point has almost no material supporting it, so in low-density polystyrene it crumbles the moment it is handled and the facets go soft. We cut dense, fine-cell EPS with a closed surface, which is what lets the tip stay sharp and the facet lines stay readable under fondant.

Putting it together

Stack in order: base, column, upper platform, canopy. Run a wooden dowel or long skewer through the whole stack so the spire cannot lean. Decorate the canopy separately before assembly, since the facets are far easier to reach while it is loose. Use a food-safe barrier where the base meets an edible cake.

Questions people ask

Does it come decorated? No. It arrives as undecorated white foam.

Why is it more than the three-piece kits? Four pieces, more cutting, and a faceted spire that has to be shaped rather than simply turned.

Will it hold carousel horses? Yes. The foam takes skewers and dowels, so light resin, plastic or gum paste horses hang or stand without trouble.
