Four-Sided Square Foam Carousel Cake Kit

A square tent roof with four curved panels, four defined corners and a substantial lower skirt, set on a round column and base. The mix of a geometric canopy over a circular foundation is what makes this one read as a fairground pavilion rather than a plain carousel, and it photographs very differently from the round canopies.

Choose this when the cake has square tiers underneath, or when the theme leans circus, big top or vintage fair rather than merry-go-round.

Choosing your size

The canopy is measured corner to corner, so it reaches further across than a round canopy of the same number. Allow for the corners overhanging your tier, and choose a canopy one to two inches smaller than the tier it sits on. The 6 inch kit looks best on a 7 or 8 inch tier, the 8 inch on a 9 or 10 inch tier, and the 10 inch on an 11 or 12 inch tier.

Why this foam is not the cheap stuff

Corners are where cheap foam fails first. Low-density polystyrene chips at a cut corner the moment it is handled, and a square canopy has four of them plus four skirt edges. We cut dense, fine-cell EPS with a closed surface, so the corners stay sharp through decorating, transport and setup.

Putting it together

Run a wooden dowel or long skewer down through the column into the base, and a second one up into the canopy. Line up one corner of the canopy with the front of the cake before it sets, since a square roof looks wrong when it is rotated off axis. Use a food-safe barrier where the base meets an edible cake.

Questions people ask

Does it come decorated? No. It arrives as undecorated white foam.

Does it work over round tiers? Yes, and the contrast is deliberate. A square roof over a round tier is a classic fairground look.

Will it hold carousel horses? Yes. The foam takes skewers and dowels, so light resin, plastic or gum paste horses hang or stand without trouble.
