Classic Carousel Foam Cake Kit
A carousel is one of the hardest shapes to build in real cake. The roof has to carry its own weight, stay level, and hold a clean curve while you cover it. This kit gives you that structure in dense white EPS foam, cut and ready to decorate.
The Classic Round is the traditional silhouette: a smooth curved canopy with a defined skirt, a wide centre column, and a matching round base. Because the curve is uninterrupted, it gives you more usable decorating surface than any other canopy we cut. Stripes, draping, piped scallops, fondant panels and flowers all sit cleanly on it.
What is in the kit
- Round canopy with skirt
- Centre column
- Round base
Three pieces, cut to match. Decorations, cake, horses, poles and adhesives are not included.
Choosing your size
| Kit | Canopy | Column | Base | Assembled height |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 inch | 6 in wide x 2.5 in high | 2 in dia x 6 in | 6 in x 1 in | approx 9.5 in |
| 8 inch | 8 in wide x 3.25 in high | 2.5 in dia x 7 in | 8 in x 1.25 in | approx 11.5 in |
| 10 inch | 10 in wide x 4 in high | 3 in dia x 8.5 in | 10 in x 1.5 in | approx 14 in |
Match the kit to your cake, not to the look you want. The canopy should be one to two inches smaller than the tier it sits on, so a ring of cake stays visible around the base. A 6 inch canopy sits edge to edge on a 6 inch cake with no margin at all, and looks best on a 7 or 8 inch tier. The 8 inch kit suits a 9 or 10 inch tier, and the 10 inch kit an 11 or 12 inch tier.
Why this foam is not the cheap stuff
A curved canopy is where cheap foam gives itself away. Low-density polystyrene with visible beads fuzzes along a curve when it is cut, and every pit telegraphs straight through fondant. We cut dense, fine-cell EPS with a closed surface: no visible beads, no pitting, no crumbling at the skirt edge.
Putting it together
Push a wooden dowel or long skewer down through the centre of the column into the base, and a second one up into the canopy. Cover each piece separately before assembly if you are using fondant. If the carousel sits on an edible cake, use a food-safe barrier such as a thin cake board or acetate between the base and the cake.
Questions people ask
Does it come decorated? No. It arrives as undecorated white foam so you can finish it your way.
Can I use it on a real cake? Yes, with a food-safe barrier underneath. The foam itself is not edible.
Will it hold carousel horses? The foam takes skewers and dowels easily, so light resin, plastic or gum paste horses hang or stand without trouble.
Can I get a size that is not listed? Yes. See custom shapes and sizes.
